The human body, defined and distorted by sun, water, firelight and myriad elements in the surrounding environment is my subject matter. I see the figures as both natural and invasive to the landscapes they inhabit.
I paint directly, wet on wet, onto the canvas, in order to create a visually tactile experience. I am interested in perception and in building a painted reality. The materiality of the paint is important in my work. These images are not photo realistically rendered, rather they are sumptuously painted. The pallet and energy are more Rococo than photo with a depth and variety of paint application from the thin glaze to the impasto.
